Description

Jaljeevika is a group that helps fishing communities and farmers who rely on water bodies for their living. We teach farmers how to farm fish and other aquatic animals in a way that's good for the environment and doesn't cost too much. We bring together new technology, ideas, and old ways of doing things to create better jobs. We're also a place that helps communities start businesses related to water, and we connect them with markets. We show ways for farmers to make more money and make water resources more productive.

Mission 2023

  • 1 Million Hectare Water Area
  • 1 Million Fish Farmer
  • 100000+ Jobs

Jaljeevika focuses on supporting socially and economically disadvantaged groups, small and marginal farmers, and marginalized communities by using a comprehensive approach to improve their livelihoods in the aquatic sector.

Empowering Small-scale Farmers: We work with small and seasonal pond owners and fish farmers using our AquaEDP model to provide training. This helps establish a resilient blue economy and benefits over 20,000 farming families throughout India.

Promoting Women in Fisheries: We actively promote women's participation in the fisheries sector to reduce their vulnerability to livelihood risks. By involving them as farmers and fish vendors, we ensure food and nutritional security for their families. This initiative has reached over 4000 women fish farmers and vendors.

Supporting Micro Enterprises: We facilitate the establishment of micro-enterprises by utilizing small and seasonal ponds. We also transfer technology for building cages using local materials in reservoirs and implement low-cost recirculatory systems. These efforts cover around 700 fisherfolk, creating an ecosystem-based approach to aquaculture.

Enhancing Institutional Governance: We promote a collective approach to governance and integrate institutional models to develop business skills among fisheries collectives. This initiative involves working with over 130 fisheries cooperatives and groups, fostering a culture of collective value chain development in the aquatic livelihood segment.
